Powder brows, also known as ombre brows, is a permanent make up technique that uses a handheld machine and pigment to insert colour into the top layers of the skin manually. This technique creates a soft shading effect that is ideal for those looking for a natural-looking brow.
In this guide, we will discuss all aspects of the powder brow procedure, including the preparation, the procedure itself, and the aftercare.
Before your powder brow appointment, it is important to follow some pre-procedure steps to ensure the best possible results. Your brow technician will provide you with all the required information you need to prepare for the treatment.
It is recommended that you refrain from consuming caffeine a minimum of 48 hours before the process. It is also important to avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen, or any other natural blood thinners. You should also refrain from getting Botox or fillers for at least 2 weeks before and after the procedure. These steps will ensure the best possible results.
Powder brows are created using a hand-held machine that disperses little dots of pigment into the skin using shading, resulting in a minimally invasive process. The procedure is less painful than microblading and can last one to three years depending on your skin type, without leaving scars or damaging the skin.
Each treatment begins with a discussion and consultation. Your brow technician will check through your medical form to ensure everything is ok and that you are fit and well to have the treatment applied.
During the consultation, we will look at your skin tone and natural hair and eyebrow colour. This is essential to enable us to choose the correct pigment for your eyebrow tattoo. We can then paint some of the choices onto your forehead with different pigments to examine how they will look on your skin. This is very important to get the perfect match for your brow hair and skin.
It is always better to choose a lighter pigment shade as the darkening procedure is far simpler than the lighting process. We always avoid eyebrow pigment colours with a blue base. It is vital to begin with lighter pigments, especially if you have never had eyebrows done before, as it can be a little shocking to see them straight after the procedure. By doing it this way, we can add to them at your touch-up, and once you’ve acclimatized to the new appearance, you can ask for a more daring look.
Understanding the base or tone of the pigmentation colour, and the undertone of your skin are the two pieces of a chessboard that are the most vital to have. We use colour wheels to determine what pigment will work the best in your skin. This is unique to each person.
It’s ok to bring images of eyebrow shapes you like and show how you typically prefer them to look. This can help guide your brow technician when creating the stencil, although you may like a certain look of brow, we must go off your face, your bone structure and where your natural brow hair is. If you’ve lost your eyebrows due to health issues, your brow technician might question you about the form they were naturally.
The technician will draw a border around your brows using pencil and string to demonstrate the finished design. After the measuring and shape of the brows have been approved, it is time to begin the procedure.
The finished result initially appears much darker than it is because the colour remains in the outer layers of the skin. However, the colour lightens within a few days following treatment when the outer layer of the skin begins to peel, which causes the colour to become lighter.
Whether or not your powder brows scab/flake depends on your skin type and lifestyle. Be sure to follow all aftercare advice given to you by your brow technician. After the scabs/flakes have fallen off, your eyebrows will have a noticeably lighter appearance. Always remember that picking at your brows can lead to infection or the loss of pigment, so try to avoid doing so.
This method involves using a specialized machine with a needle to create very small dots/pixels and shading. This can feel a little scratchy.
The application of multiple layers of pigment that are a sequence of several fine dots that vary in concentration results in a stunning look when applied to create your powder brows. In most cases, there is only a minimal amount of discomfort.
After applying the last layer of pigment, the region surrounding the eyebrows is cleansed. You will be shown the finished result, and at this stage, you can voice any changes you would like to be made or added to your brows.
Although scabbing/flaking of the eyebrows is a common response of the skin to the process, each individual client reacts uniquely.
Your brows will appear quite dark and prominent immediately following the procedure. The brows will become darker over the next two days as the scabbing begins. They may feel constrictive and irritated. You will be given an aftercare ointment to apply softly to your brows to aid recovery.
Scabs are frequently apparent by day 3 or 4, and the brows may begin to look patchy. It is essential to allow the scabs to peel off spontaneously. Picking at the scabs may result in scarring or loss of pigment in the affected area. The scabbing process normally takes 7-15 days, depending on your skin and how quickly you naturally heal. Don’t worry if your eyebrows take longer to heal; everyone is different, just maintain your aftercare advice and trust the process.
Your brows may feel tender immediately following the treatment, but this is completely normal. The tenderness usually goes away the next day.
